An injured walker has been rescued from the Slieve Bloom Mountains in Laois on Saturday afternoon. 

Laois Offaly Gardai, Laois and Offaly Civil Defence and the National Ambulance Service were involved in the operation in the Slieve Bloom Mountains on Saturday, January 20. 

Laois Civil Defence had been training on the River Barrow on Saturday morning prior to the call out. 

“Search teams from Laois and Offaly Civil Defence were activated by Garda Síochána Laois Offaly and South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association to assist with the extrication of an injured hiker on the Slieve Bloom Mountains,” Laois Civil Defence stated on social media. 

“The injured person was treated on scene by Civil Defence medics and extricated safely by our team to an awaiting ambulance,” they said. 

South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association also posted information about the incident. 

“Callout earlier in the day yesterday to the Slieve Blooms in Laois to an injured walker. Thanks to Laois Civil-Defence for responding and taking the call,” they stated.
