An air and sea rescue operation has resumed on Friday morning in Co Galway after a man was reported to be missing off Cruach na Cara in the Carna area of Connemara.
The missing man is believed to have been sailing on a yacht yesterday with his wife, after which they went ashore in a small dinghy.
The man has reportedly not been seen since he went to retrieve the dinghy later in the day.
A mayday call is understood to have been issued from a vessel near Oileán Máisean, a short distance offshore from Carna, shortly before 6pm yesterday.
The operation is being led by the Irish Coast Guard in conjunction with gardaí.
A garda spokesperson confirmed that shortly after 6.15 p.m. on Thursday, June 6th, 2024, Gardaí and the Coast Guard responded to reports of a man entering the water off the coast of Carna, Co. Galway.
"A coast guard led operation is currently underway. No further details are available at this time," the spokesperson said.
