Minimum taxi fares are set to increase by at least 9%, following a national review.
Research has found an increase in costs of running a taxi service, which is now set to be passed on to the customer.
The National Transport Authority (NTA) has today, July 4, opened a consultation on proposals for the National Maximum Taxi Fare Review 2024.
The National Maximum Taxi Fare Review Report 2024 examined the cost of running a taxi service compared to 2022, when the previous fare review was undertaken.
The report published today provides an update on this, and has found that overall, the costs associated with operating a taxi increased between 2022 and 2024 by approximately 9%. An increase in maximum taxi fare levels to reflect this, is recommended in the report.
Details of the National Maximum Taxi Fare Review are now open for public consultation until Friday, August 16th, 2024.
The Taxi Fare Review is carried out by the NTA every two years to assess operating costs and fares in the Small Public Service Vehicle (SPSV) sector.
