'Forever a part of our school community' - moving tribute to Mayo mother and daughter

RIP: The Parents Association of St Aidan's NS in Kiltimagh have paid a moving tribute to student Abbigeal Moore-Tournié and her loving mother Aisling who died in a road crash in Mayo this week

'Beautiful angels' - Mother and child who died in road crash to be buried this weekend

The Parents Council of St Aidan's NS in Kiltimagh have paid a moving tribute to their "beautiful 2nd class pupil Abbigael Moore-Tournié and her loving mother Aisling Moore".

The mother and daughter died tragically when their car was involved in a crash with a lorry at Lismoran, Foxford, County Mayo, Tuesday evening, 2nd July 2024.

The collision happened on the N26 at approximately 5.45 pm, resulting in the deaths of Aisling (46) and Abbigael (8).

"Abbigael was a beautiful child. So full of life. Always smiling. It is heartbreaking to think she has been taken so suddenly in such a tragic way. She was a much-valued pupil and friend of 2nd class. All her friends adored her as she was always so much fun to be around," the parents council said.

They added that Aisling was so well-known and liked among all the parents within their school community.

"She always had a kind word for everyone. She was a beautiful soul. Her gentle presence always brought a sense of calm. She was so devoted and proud of Abbigael. You would never see one without the other," they said.

They recounted how Aisling and Abbigael were in school on Friday evening for the Uniform Exchange.

"Little Abbigael had her blue eye shadow on and with a twinkle in her eye she said to us 'I think I'm allowed to cartwheel in here since no teachers are around' - without a reply off she went! She was so pleased and happy with herself walking out the door.

"Aisling offered to stay and help which was not unlike her as she was always so supportive of the Parents Association.
We offer our heartfelt condolences to Aisling and Abbigael's family, friends and neighbours at this devastating time. We are also thinking of all Abbigael's friends in 2nd class, the staff and parents of St Aidan's.

"Aisling and Abbigael you will be forever a part of our school community and we will always remember the joy and the 'much love' you brought to it.

"May Aishling and Abbigael Rest in Peace. Forever together like they always were," the Parents Council said.

Their Funeral Mass will take place this Saturday, July 6 at 12 o’clock in Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Swinford prior to burial in Swinford cemetery.

They will be reposing in Swinford Cultural Centre, Swinford (F12WK83) on Friday, July 5 from 5 o’clock to 8 o’clock.
