'Absolutely pathetic' - driver fined for taking photos of overturned car following crash

A motorist who was observed by gardai taking photographs as he passed the scene of a road traffic accident has been issued with an on-the-spot fine.

Highlighting the incident on social media, gardai in County Monaghan say they were dealing with the single-vehicle incident near the market town of Carrickmacross when the offence was detected.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, they say they saw the driver of a white-coloured car taking photos and that the vehicle was stopped a short time later.

They spoke to the driver who was "issued with three (penalty) points and a €120 fine for using a phone while driving," confirmed a spokesperson.

There were no serious injuries as a result of the crash, which is under investigation.

The social media post highlighting the incident has been viewed more than 25,000 times with one user describing the actions of the man who was observed taking photographs as "absolutely pathetic".
