With the 2025 Budget due to be announced on Tuesday 1 October, the Labour Party has launched its alternative budget proposals.
The party's alternative proposal includes a range of measures targeted across key areas such as cost of living, childcare, housing and income tax.
Within the proposal, the Labour Party says it will fund 6,000 new public childcare places per year for five years as well as a full year of paid parental leave. The party also promises to fund free GP care for all children.
They also say they will provide an extra 6,000 social and affordable homes, and extend the public target to 22,000 per annum. The document also promises to double the rent tax credit to €1,500 and pay out €300 in energy credits.

With much speculation as to how the Government will utilise the €14.1 billion Apple tax windfall, the Labour Party's alternative budget proposals says it would spend the money on housing, health and climate measures.
They said that €6 billion of that money would be used to "seed" a state construction company through the Land Development Agency and €1 billion spent on supporting water infrastructure and servicing of land.
In addition to these measures, €6 billion would be allocated to a national retrofitting plan, public transport projects and purchasing State equity in offshore winds projects. Further to this, €1 billion is proposed to be spent on transitioning to Sláintecare.
