Irish passengers set to jet to the UK today have been warned after Birmingham Airport was evacuated and all flights suspended following a reported bomb threat.
Passengers are being advised not to attend Birmingham Airport due to the incident, with dozens of police at the scene.
In a statement on social media, the airport said: “@WMPolice is currently on-site dealing with an incident.
“Airport operations are currently suspended. Passengers are advised to NOT come to the airport at this time".
The update added that "the Airport’s social media channels will be updated as and when the situation changes.”
There are four Irish flights still scheduled to depart for Birmingham Airport today, with one Ryanair flight currently en route from Dublin to Birmingham.
Some commented on the airport's social media page to say they or their family members were stuck on grounded planes, while one person described the area outside the airport as "chaos".
A spokesman for West Midlands Police told reporters: "Birmingham Airport is currently being evacuated following a report of a suspicious vehicle.
"This is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers and staff."
The force warned passengers with flights this afternoon to contact their airline and check the airport's website for updates.
