While on a routine patrol along Turvey Avenue in Inchicore, Dublin 8, things took a dramatic turn when Gardaí observed two males of interest entering a taxi.
Taking place at approximately 8pm on Tuesday, June 24, Gardaí stopped the vehicle and were then met by a strong smell of cannabis.

Both men were informed that they were going to be searched under the provisions of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977.
One of the men, aged in his 20s, was found to be wearing a ballistic vest. This is a bulletproof or bullet-resistant vest which is designed to protect the torso from any harm as it absorbs the impact, either reducing or stopping any form of penetration to the body.
Along with this, he was also in possession of a substantial sum of money.
Whilst the search was being conducted by Gardaí, a .22 calibre pistol fell from being concealed in the ballistic vest.

The man has been arrested in connection with this seizure and is currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 at a Garda Station in Dublin.

The firearm seized is now subject to full technical examination and the investigation is still ongoing.
