'How good is that': Rugby legend Ronan O’ Gara reacts to viral Sharlene Mawdsley video

The video in question shows Irish 400m track star Sharlene Mawdsley 'racing' ex-Tipp hurler Buggy O'Meara down the streets of Thurles in the aftermath of the Premier County's all-Ireland win

Former Irish Rugby international Ronan O’ Gara has weighed in on the viral video of sprinter Sharlene Mawdsley's street race in Tipperary which is taking social media by storm.

The video in question shows Irish 400m track star Sharlene Mawdsley 'racing' ex-Tipp hurler Buggy O'Meara down the streets of Thurles in the aftermath of the Premier County's all-Ireland win.

Mawdsley was part of the celebrations supporting her boyfriend Michael Breen who was a member of the Tipperary squad that beat Cork in last Sunday's hurling showpiece in Croke park.

The European gold medalist gave her topless opponent a head start but blew past him to win the race in typical fashion in what was far different conditions than she’s used to when lining out for Ireland’s relay team.

Reacting to the video on ‘Off The Ball’, O’ Gara commented: “How good is that, it’s just so good”.

Talking about how the impromptu race might have happened, Munster’s former fly-half speculated: “Lads are full to the gills with liquor, they’re going, I reckon, 10, 20 metres, I'm telling you, you wouldn't beat her, and it ends up on the road”.

O’ Gara was quick to point out what may be in store for the sprinter after her impressive victory saying “She’ll get a good giving out to, a dressing down from her coach too, the hamstrings at 6am, imagine (if) she got injured”.

Nevertheless, the hilarious nature of the video doing the rounds this week wasn’t lost on the La Rochelle head coach who added: “Because as you say, they’re saying what is this fella doing? Like he’s not racing anyone and then all of a sudden bang” alluding to Mawdsley’s swift overtake.

O’ Gara is currently doing punditry work as part of the Sky Sports team covering the British and Irish Lions during their tour of Australia. The second test takes place in Melbourne on Saturday morning where the tourists will be hoping to clinch the series.
