Half-tonne of cannabis worth over €10m seized and three arrested in major Garda drug bust

More than €10 million worth of cannabis has been seized after gardaí and Revenue officers carried out a major operation targeting organised crime.

The massive drugs haul was uncovered on Friday, January 30, during a joint operation involving the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau and Revenue, as part of Operation Tara.

During searches at a premises in County Louth, officers seized 506kg of cannabis with an estimated street value of €10,120,000.

Three men, two in their 30s and one in his 50s, were arrested in connection with the discovery.

Gardaí said the men are suspected of facilitating and enhancing drug trafficking activities for an organised crime group.

The trio were arrested under Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006 and are currently being detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 at Garda stations in Louth and Dublin.

Gardaí confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
