Nestlé has now recalled a number of their products due to fears they could contain Cereulide toxin
Another batch of SMA baby formula has been recalled due to the possible presence of a toxin that can cause nausea and severe vomiting.
In a recall notice issued today, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland confirmed that popular brand Nestlé has recalled a batch of SMA First Infant Milk over fears that it may contain Cereulide.
This is a toxin produced by the bacterium Bacillus cereus. It may be pre-formed in a food and is extremely heat resistant. Consumption of foods containing cereulide toxin can lead to nausea and severe vomiting. Symptoms can appear within five hours and the duration of illness is usually 6 to 24 hours.

The affected pack size is 800g with an expiry date of December 2027. Its batch code is 53390346AB.

Nestlé is advising its customers that have purchased this batch to contact them via its online form, by sharing a photo of the product and the batch code at www.nestle.co.uk/en-gb/getintouch or by calling its careline on 1800 931 832.
Retailers are requested to remove the implicated batch from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale.
Wholesalers/distributors are also requested to contact their affected customers, recall the implicated batch and provide a point-of-sale recall notice to their customers.
Parents, guardians and caregivers are advised not to feed the implicated batch to infants or young children. If no symptoms are displayed, nothing further needs to be done. If a parent, guardian or caregiver is concerned about the health of their infant or young child, they should contact a healthcare professional. There is no indication that this has resulted in illness in Ireland.
This recall is associated with a contaminated raw ingredient which was also implicated in other recent recalls of some batches of infant formula and follow-on formula. An ingredient, ARA oil, which was manufactured in China, was contaminated with cereulide and added as an ingredient in base powder used to make infant formula and follow-on formula.
Following this, Nestlé has now recalled a number of their products due to fears they could contain Cereulide toxin. All under the SMA brand, these include certain batches of the First Infant Milk (400g, 800g, 200ml, 70ml and 1.2kg), Advanced Follow on Milk, Comfort, LITTLE STEPS First Infant Milk, Alfamino, Advanced First Infant Milk, Lactose Free, Anti Reflux and GOLD PREM 2.
