RIP: Witnesses sought after elderly motorist dies in mysterious road traffic 'incident'

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic 'incident' which occurred in County Cork earlier this week,
The alarm was raised shortly after 11am on Monday and emergency services subsequently responded to the single vehicle incident which occurred on the R639 at Ballinrush, Kilworth.

"A male driver, aged in his 70s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination will take place in Cork University Hospital," said a spokesperson.

Gardai have confirmed a technical examination has been completed by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and they are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

"Road users with camera footage, including dash-cam, who were travelling on the R639 near Ballinrush, Kilworth, Co. Cork between 10.50am and 11.20am on Monday, March 23, 2026 are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí," added the spokesperson.
