Sunday next will see Newbridge host one of its biggest ever parades to date. The Parade Committee confirmed earlier this week that there was already 47 floats entered and more to come! Morgan McCabe, Parade PRO tells us the Filipino Community Group have a brand new dance extravaganza and new costumes.
“They have been practising for months now” said Cllr McCabe “and they offer such a dramatic and visual show!”
Plenty of kiddies’ entertainment too, with the ONE pipe band, school pipe bands, marching bands and of course, lots of walking groups from the local sporting and community spectrum. “We have the Vintage Military Vehicles participating which is hugely popular and of course, we’ll have bouncy castles and street entertainment too”.
Exciting Racing Theme
With the all new Curragh Racecourse opening in April this year, the parade theme for 2019 will be ‘Celebrating the Racing Heritage of the Curragh’. The Curragh Racecourse has come on board with the Festival Committee and have generously sponsored cash prizes for the Top 4 best entrants.
“The overall development of the Curragh Racecourse will be a wonderful asset to our town and county” added Cllr McCabe. “Evan Arkwright, Racing Manager at the Curragh is delighted our St Patrick's Day Committee support this theme and stated ‘The Curragh Racecourse will sponsor some excellent prizes for the best themed float or group on the day’”.
Mick Deely, Chairman of the Committee said “The Committee are delighted to help promote our wonderful new racing stadium and look forward to working with the Curragh Racecourse.”
The committee comprises of Mick Deely, Chair/secretary; Morgan McCabe, PRO; Teresa Harrison, Treasurer; Michael Donohue, Karl Murphy and Miley Wickham.
Walking participants will meet at TESCO and Woodies Car Parks, with floats parking along Standhouse House Road in advance of the parade start at 12 noon. All participants are asked to come early, between 10 and 11am to the assembly points. A great visual and aural spectacle, the St Patrick’s Day Parade in Newbridge on Sunday next, commencing 12 noon.
