Newbridge town now sees up to 60 hungry children and parents every week lining streets for food
By Louise McCarthy 21:01 Wednesday 13th of September 2017

Children and parents in Newbridge are lining the streets every week now due to hunger, in a bid to get donations of free food from a newly established voluntary group.

The Dining Room, established by about 20 volunteers, since January this year, gives out up to 60 meals, every Wednesday and Friday evening. Meals could include spaghetti bolognese and beef stews.

Outside the town hall, up to 60 meals are distributed.

One of the organisers, Catherine O'Donoghue, said: "People are struggling."

Appeals are now being made for donations of warm clothes including hats and scarves in preparation for  the winter months.

Meanwhile, Newbridge businessman, Vivian Carroll, of Judge Roy Beans,  is joining forces with The Dining Room Newbridge and Christmas Day with Friends, to offer Christmas Day Dinner and some company to people who may otherwise spend the day alone.

The best way for people to help is to make a small cash donation from €1, to the  GoFundMe page through the link below: https://www.gofundme.com/Christmaswithfriends
