KildareNow Restaurant Review: The Lonesome Boatman, Clane

 By Senan Hogan
The former Parade Ring in Clane is under new management and has undergone a fantastic re-brand and re-fit as The Lonesome Boatman.
The new Gastro Bar & Lounge on the Main Street of the bustling town takes its name from the traditional Irish folk tune which will be well known to many.
The Launch Night of The Lonesome Boatman took place in Clane on March 30 and dozens of locals enjoyed complimentary food from its delicious new Menu, a free drink on arrival and high quality live music.
Since then, the latest new venue in Co Kildare has built up a loyal base of new customers.
The Lonesome Boatman is now serving food including Lunch and Dinner seven days per week as well as Brunch on weekends.
Live Sport is beamed onto large screens for sports fans during the week and at weekends.
If you're looking for entertainment, live quality music is available every Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
 Cosy ambience
The venue has an easygoing, cosy ambience and you'd be forgiven for thinking you were in the West of Ireland with the Atlantic Ocean lapping against the walls outside the window!
There's even a beautiful old boat suspended from the ceiling which is worth a selfie!
The decor is modern yet homely and makes customers feel immediately at ease.
Quirky decor
There are lots of quirky paraphernalia and trinkets which keep you busy gazing around and even serve as conversation starters.
A nice touch was a vase of fresh lily flowers near our table.
Also noticeable was the smart uniform of the snappily-dressed staff.
On the Saturday evening we visited, there were lots of young families dining as well as couples enjoying a drink or a meal.
The new management have lots of great ideas to try out including a Whiskey Tasting Corner and a brand new Cocktail Menu.
After perusing the comprehensive Menu, I opted for the Crispy Chicken Wings which came with a Mild Lonesome Sauce, Celery Sticks and Horseradish / Blue Cheese Dip.
The dish was visually stunning and the flavours were fresh and vivid to taste.
My dining companion chose the Tomato and Mozzarella Bruschetta with Orange and Basil Jam on a Bed of Mixed Salad Leaves.
Again, a very satisfying light snack bursting with flavour.
Main Courses
For my Main Course I fancied the 10 oz Sirloin Steak which was cooked to well done to my preference and accompanied with Onion Rings, Homemade Peppercorn Sauce and Home Fries.
This was succulent and tasty and I enjoyed every morsel.
My companion picked the Pan-Fried Fillet of Salmon Provencal which came with Butter Beans, Chorizo, Courgette Ragout finished with Chimichurri Sauce.
This dish was a real pleasure for the taste buds and no wonder it's one of the most popular items on the Menu.
On the Dessert Menu was a scrumptious Mixed Berry Crumble Tartlet with Vanilla Whipped Cream and Berries.
Another option was Warm Chocolate Brownie with Digestive Crumb, Berries and Vanilla Ice Cream.

The Lonesome Boatman is available for family events such as Birthdays, Anniversaries, Communions or Confirmations.
