North Kildare residents are now facing difficulties buying and selling houses because insurance companies are refusing to cover, according to a County Councillor.

People living throughout North Kildare are now being met by difficulties when trying to sell their homes, according to Fine Gael Cllr Tim Durkan.

Speaking to KildareNow, he says that homes previously covered by flood insurance, across a wide range of areas in North Kildare, are now being refused cover, in areas that are not designated flood risk areas.

He said: "I am getting a lot of people concerned about this. This issue has been coming to my attention for the past 18 months."

Cllr Durkan is bringing the issues before Kildare County Council Meeting this Wednesday.

He is appealing for Kildare County Council to write to the insurance regulator and all home insurance providers who offer policies within Co Kildare.

Cllr Durkan says that  the areas that are being refused flood insurance are not listed as flood risk areas in the current Catchment Flood Risk Assessment and Management Studies (CRFRAMS).

He said: "This misinterpretation is now affecting house sales within County Kildare."
