A driver will now face court after gardaí found him to be committing several road offences.

The Naas Roads Policing Unit were on patrol near Straffan recently when they observed an SUV towing a twin-axle trailer carrying a van.

According to gardaí, the trailer had no rear registration plate displayed and the vehicle on the trailer appeared to be insecurely strapped.

Following this, the driver was stopped and informed authorities that he held a licence permitting him to tow a trailer.

However, after checking the mobility app, it was revealed that the driver in question only held a learner permit which had expired 15 years ago.

Fixed Charge Penalty Notices were issued, including €340 and 2 penalty points for driving unaccompanied as a learner driver, no L-plates displayed and no rear registration plate on the trailer.

The driver will also face a court appearance for no insurance, no driving licence and insecure load offences, which carry a potential fine of up to €5,000 as well as a 2-year driving disqualification.
