A loving tribute is penned by  the partner of  a well-known Co Kildare photojournalist who lost his battle to cancer just before midnight.

His partner Jeannie Framptom gave an emotional tribute  on social media: "It's with a broken and heavy heart I have to tell you my beautiful man breathed his last shortly before midnight
He died with my kisses on his forehead and loving whispers in his ear."

Mr Melia has been battling a strong fight with cancer. His dedication and determination to continue has been widely praised.

The photojournalist who specialised in sports, along with dance and theatre, was also a long running member of Toastmasters.

Only weeks ago, he was given an award for his 'Outstanding Contribution to Toastmasters'.

The photojournalist was awarded a Fellowship in Visual Journalism by the Royal Photographic Society in the nineties following on from an Associateship two years earlier and scooped the National Community games Photo of the Year awards in 2007, 2009 and 2010.

Mr Melia,  of Hazelmere, Naas, and Coolree, Robertstown, , the son of the late Pat, is survived by his partner Jeannie, mother Pattie, brother Terence, sister-in-law Carmel, nephews Kieran and Brian, aunts, uncles, cousins & a large circle of friends.

He will be reposed at his mother Pattie's residence in Coolree on Wednesday from 2pm, with rosary at 8pm. The removal will take place  on Thursday at 10.30am to arrive at Christ the King Church, Cooleragh for 11am Funeral Mass, followed by burial in Allen Cemetery.
