Person jumped from 2nd floor in apartment fire in Carlow Town

Multiple people were evacuated from an apartment complex in Carlow town just after 12.30am today.

The blaze broke out at John's Court on John Street, according to Emergency Times.

Furniture caught fire in one apartment and toxic smoke smothered the premises.

Fire Brigade units from Carlow Town and Bagenalstown responded to the incident.

Carlow's Acting Chief Fire Officer was also summoned to the scene.

A number of people and pets were evacuated from the complex, and treated by paramedics, firefighters and gardaí at the scene.

Emergency Times said it's understood one person may have jumped from the 2nd floor to escape.

A number of ambulances from the National Ambulance Service were sent from Carlow and Kilkenny.

Ambulances from Athy, Co. Kildare and Portlaoise, Co. Laois may have also attended.

Gardaí and Carlow County Fire & Rescue Services are investigating the incident.
