Council blocks plan to knock down Newbridge pub
22:53 Friday 20th of January 2017

Kildare Co Council has refused planning permission to demolish a former pub in Newbridge.

Planning permission had been sought to convert The Winning Post building on the corner of Eyre Street and John Street into an apartment block.

The popular town centre venue closed a number of years ago.

Council officials had examined proposals to change the existing detached two-storey building into a three-storey detached apartment block.

Being proposed were three one-bed and three two-bed flats as well as access to John Street for vehicles and pedestrians.

However the Council made its decision on Tuesday to refuse planning permission for the works.
