Proposals are now in for hundreds of car parking spaces for Sallins Train Station.
270 new car park spaces are anticipated in what would be a significant extension of the car park at Sallins and Naas train station. The new car park, if planning is approved, will be located on the Sallins side of the tracks and is subject to planning permission from Kildare County Council.
Deputy James Lawless said: "The extension is badly needed and something I have been working on for years.”
He says that the extension is ‘all the more urgent’ after securing an extension of the Leap card zone to Sallins which is resulting in a massive increase in those availing of cheaper fares from the station.
The 270 news spaces are expected to open in 2020.
According to Deputy Lawless there are currently designers working on the car park plans and pre-planning has begun with Kildare County Council. It is expected that a planning application will be submitted to the council later this year.
