The much anticipated Castletown Christmas Village grand opening will not be taking place today due to the expected poor weather conditions that are set to sweep the country over the next 24 hours.
The event, which takes place in Celbridge, was due to get underway this afternoon and run until Sunday December 10, but the opening of the fair has been postponed until Friday.
The organisers posted to facebook to say that they were disappointed to have to close the Christmas Village for the day, but the health and safety of their visitors was more important as Ireland braces itself for up to 3cm of snow tonight.
"It is with huge disappointment that due to circumstances outside of our control arising from the National Weather warning in place, Castletown Christmas Village will NOT be open to the public tomorrow," the organisers posted to their page yesterday.
"Although we were all set to bring you a Christmas spectacular, the health and safety of all our visitors is of paramount importance
"Santa has assured us that he will be here on Friday to Sunday and is looking forward to meeting you all then, all other activities (Illumination Show, Christmas Cinema, Puppet Panto, Cooking Demos, Santa’s Grotto and our Crafters Market will all go ahead as planned on Friday from 12 noon."
