It was a busy weekend for Revenue officers as on Friday, February 15 they seized 98,000 cigarettes, over 4kgs of tobacco and 2,950 litres of alcohol in Dublin Port worth a combined total of almost €90,000.
The alcohol and cigarettes were discovered when officers stopped and searched a foreign-registered bus and van that had disembarked a ferry from Holyhead.
The tobacco products were branded ‘Marlboro’, ‘Kent’, ‘Winston’, ‘Winchester’, ‘Vogue’ and ‘Davidoff’. The products were concealed within numerous packages being transported in the bus and van.
The seized alcohol and tobacco products have a combined retail value of €89,600, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €62,500.
These seizures are part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal alcohol and tobacco products in the shadow economy.
