REVIEW: Spice up your taste buds with new Indian restaurant in Kildare Town
20:12 Thursday 7th of December 2017

A new traditional Indian cuisine restaurant and takeaway business is quickly establishing itself in the heart of Kildare Town.

DERA EXPRESS is in the former Roma Grill premises on Claregate Street.

DERA already has a well-known restaurant on Parnell Street in Dublin City Centre which serves a wide range of classic and modern Indian, Pakistani and Afghani dishes.

DERA in Kildare prides itself on offering the best in Indian curry dishes as well as other fast food favourites.

Its Curry dishes include Tikka Masala, Jalfrezi, Dansak, Saag, Butter Chicken, Madras, Bhuna, Chilli Masala and Balti.

All Main Courses are served with Naan bread, Chips or Rice.

Prices are very reasonable and are designed to suit all budgets.

Extensive Menu

DERA has an extensive menu for other tastes with Kebabs, Fish & Chips, Burgers, Fried Chicken and Pizza.

When we visited it was the Friday evening of the Late Late Toy Show and deliveries were busy as families wanted to cosy up on the sofa.

The traditional Indian décor is bright and very appealing.

Takeaway Service

The takeaway service delivers within a several mile radius and covers areas around Kildare Town and Newbridge between 5pm and 11.30pm.

The restaurant has ample and comfortable seating and welcomes large groups for birthday parties or casual Christmas parties.

There are several Special Deals for Family Meals or Kids' Meals.

As we settled at our table, we were served complimentary Poppadoms with dip sauces: Mango Chutney, Chilli and Mint.

I chose Onion Bhajis for Starter which were fresh and tasty and full of flavour.

The Bhajis were also served with a mixed salad of gherkins and lettuce as well as mint leaves and lemon slices to whet the appetite.

Main Course

For the Main Course I choose Chicken Korma and Pilau Rice.  This dish was bursting with flavour and the portions were very filling.

My dining companion selected the Lamb Dansak which came with Boiled Rice. Again this was a very tasty option and satisfying to the last forkful.

As a Side Dish, we ordered Peshawari Naan Bread which was freshly baked and still warm.

Desserts on the Menu include traditional Indian ice cream called Kulfi (below).

Also available is Kheer - a form of rice pudding.

You may also like Gulab Jamun - a south Asian milk-solid based dessert.

DERA is a very affordable dining option as well as offering low-priced takeaway options.

At all times our host Shahid and his staff were friendly and efficient - we will certainly be back to spice up our taste buds again!

Chefs in DERA also cater for special dietary needs such as Coeliac, Gluten Free, Vegan and others. Gift Vouchers are also available and would provide perfect Christmas presents.

DERA is open 7 days a week from 12.30pm until late.
