Snow to continue to thaw today as conditions begin to normalise again

The snow is set to continue to thaw out today around Kildare as temperatures gradually rise in the county following five days of freezing conditions. Due to the huge build up of snow over the last number of days, it will take quite long for the snow to fully melt, and Kildare County Council will continue to work on the roads to make them passable once again.

Most places will be dry and cloudy today but scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle will mainly affect the south and east of the country. Temperatures will continue to improve with highest values of 4-7 degrees in light to moderate northeasterly winds. Melting snow will lead to increased river levels and surface water flooding.

Cold overnight with clear spells and showers, a few of sleet. Lowest temperatures plus 1 to -2 degrees, with some frost and icy patches. Some patches of mist and shallow fog also.
