The opening game on Sunday's three-match programme at Manguard Park sees Milltown and Robertstown go head-to-head in the Tom Cross Transport Junior Football Championship final and it promises to be a cracking contest (throw-in 2 pm).

Milltown won four of their five group games, racking up some impressive score lines, getting the better of Grangenolvin, Castlemitchell, Ballykelly, receiving a walk-over from Ardclough while losing out by a single point to Rathcoffey.

Robertstown, playing in Group B, a five team group, won three of their group games, defeating Athgarvan, Cappagh and Rheban while losing out to Kill.

It was a bit of magic from Milltown's Colin O'Shea, a great servant of the club, that proved the difference between them and Grangenolvin in the semi-final. These were the two teams on many people's short list to go all the way and the game went down to the wire with just a single point separating them in the end, that coming when their no. 6 came storming forward to split the posts.

Milltown manager, Darren O'Shea said after the game that he was very happy with the result, especially after his side conceded a goal early on that put them under pressure.

Robertstown are a team that are constantly there or thereabouts at this level and while they have often came off second best on the final day, losing out in 2019 and 2020; it was back in 2011 when they won their last title defeating Two Mile House in the final.

Just like the other semi-final Robertstown's semi was another close-run thing with just a single point between them and Athgarvan (1-5 to 0-7). That day it was super sub, John O'Sullivan who fired over the winning point to set up Sunday's date with Milltown.

Milltown will look to Cian Buckley, Colin O'Shea at centre back; the midfield pairing of Shane Daly and Kevin Byrne while up front Conor Sheerin, Ben Curran, the experienced Declan McKenna and Ronan O'Shea to steer them over the line.

Robertstown on the other hand will be hoping DJ Percival, Shane Ward, Joe Kavanagh, Niall Kane and Brion Kennedy bring their 'A' game to Hawkfield.

A game that will probably go to the wire with, possibly, Milltown coming out on top to take the title they last won in 2018.
