"A passion just came over me, I have never felt that before" - Milltown stars react to Leinster Junior title win

Milltown goal-scorer Declan McKenna

COLIN O'SHEA

“I think I will need ten minutes or more to let what we have achieved to sink in a bit” the words of centre half back Colin O'Shea who has been one of the mainstays for Milltown throughout this entire campaign.

“The second half was so emotionally draining; we were probably the better team in the first half but we just didn't take our chances; conceded I thought was a soft goal and then in the second half,  the sending off, maybe it galvanised us and I don't think we conceded a score after the red card but we backed our defence the entire year and came out on top.”

An amazing year?

“Absolutely fantastic; sometimes when you are with a smaller club; you have poor years; you have lean years but then with retirements, lads ageing it can be hard but days like this don't come around too often and that makes it very special; but we will enjoy it and that's for sure.”

And an All-Ireland semi-final to look forward to:

“Ye, we will have a couple of days celebration but Kildare teams don't get too many chances to play in an All-Ireland semi-final, whether it is at club level; inter-county level; we have a semi-final now but we can correct a few things from today we will be hard to beat.”

DECLAN McKENNA

A man that knows all bout winning club championships admitted that the second half one a tough half indeed.

“Very tough; I think we were a point up with 25 minutes to go; we knew it was going to be a slog, they were pressurising us; we probably held on to a little too much possession in the end; myself and Colin (O'Shea) were maybe fluting around a little but; we just didn't want to lose possession and in the end; that was an unbelievable score from Pa Donohoe; we could see the crowd going mad and then I was too tired to track and got a sneaky goal near the end.”

So how does that rank with your senior wins with Sarsfields?

“I have four senior medals with Sarsfields but the feeling there on the pitch at the end; how much it meant for the whole village, a passion just came over me, I have never felt that before; a bit early but it will sink in  later but it feels very good and no doubt we will enjoy this for the next couple of days” said a very happy corner forward who has been an integral part of this team throughout the campaign, both at county and now at provincial level.
