Speaking after her side’s defeat to Meath in their second Leinster Senior Football Championship game, Kildare manager Diane O’Hora said, “I am hugely proud of the girls. They knew at half-time that they were in it. That second goal they got was a bit of a sucker punch to us, there was no reason for us to be more than five-points behind at that stage.”
Niamh Gallogly's goal just before half-time was a blow Kildare didn't need after closing the gap to five points. Further exemplified by the fact that Kildare would be just three points behind after 50 minutes, following a brilliant second half display.
O'Hora added, “Our own errors and the turnovers we imposed upon ourselves were the big issue and that was the difference in the game. A lot of the decisions were just…I am looking forward to watching the game back to try and understand what a lot of those decisions that the ref saw, which looked completely different to us.
“We didn’t seem to get a stroke of luck on any of the calls he was giving, but that is neither here nor there. ”
The main points of contention from the Kildare contingent concerned a foot block from a close range Niamh Farrelly effort in the first half and a push on Trina Duggan as she took aim at goal inside the box late on
