Brian Flanagan Kildare's new senior football manager
Brian Flanagan has been ratified at to-night's (Tuesday 3 September) Kildare Co. Board meeting as the new manager of Kildare senior football team.
The former long-time Kildare defender and successful county U20 manager, has been give a four-year term, with a review after each year.
His backroom team includes former Armagh All-Ireland winning player Aidan O'Rourke, who served for one year during Kieran McGeeney's time in Kildare and he will be joined by two former Kildare players who have given great service to the county, Damian Hendy of Castledermot and Daryl Flynn of Moorefield.
A bad knee injury forced the Johnstownbridge clubman Flanagan to retire from inter-county football at the age of 29 in 2014. He was the county’s junior manager prior to becoming a senior Kildare selector to Cian O’Neill for the 2016 season.
In September 2020, Brian Flanagan was appointed Kildare U20 manager with Kildare, initially on a two-year basis.
He led Kildare to the All-Ireland U20 final in 2022, losing out to Tyrone.
Re-appointed for a third year, Brian managed The Lilies to the 2023 All-Ireland U20 decider and this time to a win over Sligo; in both 2022 and 2023 Kildare defeated Dublin in the Leinster final.
