Eoin Doyle celebrates after recent county final success
One thing we have learned over the years from chatting to Naas captain, Eoin Doyle, whether it in connection with club or county and that is he never looks back.
“If a game is over it is over and nothing you do about that, absolutely nothing “ he sais, adding “it is all about looking ahead to the next game whether that is a final, a replay or whatever, you can do something an upcoming game but nothing about one that is gone.”
What would it mean to yourself and the team to win on Sunday?
“Look, whatever has gone in the past is in the past, it is all about winning the next one and an opportunity to winning a county final; it is not about another one, or adding to anything, it is a match on Sunday, a chance to win a county final and that is the way I look at it.
“People may look at the recent history of Naas and say it has been relatively successful winning a couple of titles but before that we were nowhere near, but this game on Sunday knows no history, it knows no previous results or previous scores, good days or bad days, it is about 60 minutes going out and performing.”
Eoin acknowledges that this game is going to be a really tough challenge, “they will have learned an awful lot from last year, another occasion, another match and we will go out and do our very best to win.”
Preparation any different this year from last year or previous year?
“No, not really, not a lot has changed, a couple of players have left, it happens, life ticks over, a few lads have finished up such as Leper (Callaghan) and Paul Sullivan; but no more than any other club or county team just trying to get better and improve, and that's what we try to do, game and game.”
The Naas captain acknowledges that Celbridge have been knocking on the door in recent years and they will be gung-ho and extra bit of an edge after last year, but it will all be down who can perform on the day.”
Naas have some young additions such as Tom Browne, Ryan Sinkey, Eoin Lawlor, Rob Fitzgerald, involved last year but getting more game time now, that is always plus admits Eoin, “but so have Celbridge but it is brilliant for us to have those lads, they are young, they are eager and hopefully they can build on it next week.”
Extra special due to St Conleth's reopening?
“Of course, in the making for a number of years and finally here but no more than Celbridge we know little about it have seen a few clips but that's all whatever newness is there will be new for us and new for them.”
