Naas Senior football manager Joe Murphy
Naas manager Joe Murphy, admitted to be extremely disappointed with Saturday night's result in the Leinster Club SFC quarter-final which the Dublin side won by three points, but insisted his side gave it their all, knew they would not lie down and they showed again what the are capable of albeit coming up just a bit short.
The managers said that while he felt Cuala played a bit negatively against Crokes but said “we were not afraid to play football, I believe that is the way football should be played."
Murphy added "you talk about rule changes this and rule changes that but what is wrong going out and playing the game of football; we could have parked the bus in a dour affair and still lost by a point but at least their is some pride when you are part of what was a great spectacle, that is the way I watched it and played it and I think that is the way it should be played.”
After their second goal we were chasing the game but “at least we chased it and came very close.”
Asked if it hurts after falling to a Dublin side once again, Murphy said “pride-wise it does, previously I had a good record against Dublin teams but it is not working that way, a bit of karma coming around but to win a Leinster you are always going to have to meet and beat Dublin teams whether in the first round or the final but Cuala deserved to win tonight.
"This is still a very young Naas side, five of the six forwards are still u22, (Darragh) Kirwan was the exception and he is still just 23, if those guys keep improving year-on-year they will get over the line at some stage” adding “we came here to win, to represent Kildare, the new county grounds, we felt we would, now we have to dust ourselves down and look to the future.”
