Kilcullen fought back from two points down at half-time to defeat St Kevin's in the opening Group C game in the National Electrical Wholesalters IFC at Cedral St Conlth's Park this evening.
With both teams losing last week in the prelims, this was a big one and certainly it was The Rags who rose to occasion, especially in the second half, thanks to a brilliant display from corner forward Ciaran O'Brien who bagged two second half goals along with seven points.
Kevins never gave up, got the lead back to three late in the second half but it was Kilcullen who held out for a deserved victory on a final score line of Kilcullen 2-16 St Kevin's 1-15.
Scorers: Kilcullen, Ciaran O'Brien 2-7 (4 frees), Thomas Hickey 0-7 (2 two-pinters, 2 frees), Ciaran Melinn 0-1, Darragh Burke 0-1.
St Kevin's, Barry Noone 0-5 (1 two-pointer, 45, 1 free), Dylan Brereton 1-0, Cormac Noone 0-2 (two-pointer), Declan Flaherty 0-2, Jamie Smyth 0-1, Conor Murray 0-3 (1 free), Enda Keane 0-1.
