The Irish Defence Forces has always played a prominent role in the GAA, and there have been many of its members that have made eye-catching contributions to some of the most memorable days in the association's history. This weekend will be no different, as up to six Irish Army personnel could feature in the Senior All-Ireland Hurling final between Kilkenny and Tipperary. Four members of the Kilkenny senior hurling panel are currently based in the 3rd Infantry Battalion, Stephens Barracks, Kilkenny - Private Colin Fennelly, Private Richie Reid, Corporal Paul Murphy and Corporal Eoin Larkin. They will be facing their fellow colleagues on the pitch this Sunday, Private Patrick 'Bonner' Maher (Tipperary) who is based in an Chéad Chathlán Coisithe at Dún Uí Mhaoilíosa, Galway and Aidan McCormack who is based in the 3rd Infantry Battalion, Stephens Barracks along with his Kilkenny Counterparts. Throw-in for the game is scheduled for 3.30pm on Sunday afternoon and it promises to be yet another epic encounter between the age-old rivals.
