A major sports campus including four tennis courts is being proposed for Monasterevin.
A joint planning application for the Togher Road site located near McConville's SuperValu store has been lodged with Kildare Co Council. The ambitious project is being supported by St Eimhin's Lawn Tennis Club, Monasterevin AFC, Monasterevin Community Facilities Group, Monasterevin Athletics and Monasterevin Basketball group. Being planned are four international standard all-weather tennis courts with air domes, lighting and fencing as well as mini practice tennis courts. A dedicated community children's outdoor play area is also in the plans. In addition, an athletics track, high grade soccer pitch and two 5-aside soccer pitches are being planned. Also in the designs is a multi-purpose, multi-level community and sports building which will include halls for badminton, indoor tennis, 5-aside soccer, basketball as well as squash courts, gym, club rooms and changing areas. The development will also feature parking for cars and buses.
The design team behind the proposals are Dublin-headquartered Cummins + Voortman Ltd which are chartered conservation architects and urban designers.
