Two Kildare footballers and one hurler named in Leinster squads for Inter-Provincial clashes

Two Kildare footballers have been named in the Leinster squad for the Inter-Provincial clash with Connacht tomorrow evening. Maynooth U21 star Neill Flynn and Allenwood's Johnny Byrne are the two players to be selected from the county, with Byrne's clubmate Johnny Doyle also a selector for the team. It is a largely underwhelming squad that is unlikely to do anything to attract attention to a competition that was once a very big deal to GAA fans all over the country, with just two Dublin players -John Small and Darren Daly- included in the panel. Westmeath and Offaly have the highest number of representatives on the panel with four each. The hurling squad includes plenty of well-known players, with the likes of Kilkenny sextet Eoin Murphy, Padraig Walsh, Kieran Joyce, Conor Fogarty, Colin Fennelly and Walter Walsh joined in the side by Wexford stars Lee Chin and Conor McDonald. Gifted Celbridge hurler Gerry Keegan has been drafted in too, a great achievement considering he is the only player who is from a county that won't be playing in the top tier of hurling next year, the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. The Leinster hurlers are managed by Dublin’s Ciaran Hetherton, Kilkenny’s Michael Kavanagh and Wicklow’s Don Hyland and play Connacht in Nenagh this Saturday at 2.45pm. Throw-in for the football is scheduled for 6pm in Parnell Park tomorrow evening. Admission to the matches in €10 for adults with children under 16 admitted free.
