Fine season for Kildare's Feely capped with inclusion in Irish International Rules squad

Kevin Feely has been included in the Irish International Rules squad that will take on Australia down under in November. The Athy midfielder secured his place on the international team following a superb season with Kildare in which he was nominated for an All-Star award as he helped the Lilywhites score promotion from Divison 2 of the National League and also starred on the route to a first Leinster final appearance for the county since 2009. The former professional soccer player joins the likes of Aidan O'Shea and Conor McManus in the squad, with the Mayo star captaining the side and the Farney man acting as vice-captain. Team manager Joe Kernan, whose backroom team includes Darragh O Sé, Pádraic Joyce and Dermot Earley said: "I'd like to congratulate all of the players who have made the panel and acknowledge not only their hard work and training but that of all of the players who trialed and trained with us since our preparations commenced. "Everyone involved is enthused by the prospect of representing Ireland and we are fully aware of the challenge involved in trying to retain the Cormac McAnallen Cup won against Australia at Croke Park two years ago."
