Kildare GAA: Sarsfields call a halt as Leinster appeal lost

Club decides to call a halt brining the process to an end

Kildare GAA: Sarsfields appeal

Having had their latest appeal turned down following the abandonment of the Whitewater U23 Football quarter-final against Naas, Sarsfields GAA Club have decided not to go any further in their quest to have that game replayed.

Last night, (Wednesday December 30) Sarsfields, having initially had their appeal turned down by Kildare CCC and Kildare Hearings, appealed to Leinster CCC but the result, not unexpectedly it has to be said, was again turned down.

A spokesperson for Sarsfields said that while they firmly believe they have been hard done by and the game should be replayed, have decided there is little point in dragging the saga on any further and while there are still avenues open to them, have decided, to be fair, particularly to their players, not to go any further.

The original game against Naas was level at full-time, Sarsfields had their manager 'sent off' in the first half but he asked before extra time to be re-admitted which the match referee turned down.

A senior club official then approached the match official suggesting he (manager) should be re-admitted but the match official then decided to abandoned the game and left the field of play.

Naas will now progress to the semi-final where they will take on Clane while Maynooth are await the winner in the final.
