A very talented singer is making waves with her debut single ‘Emilio’ soaring through the iTunes charts to No.2 after being released on Friday 13 April, with the catchy tune ranking just behind British star George Ezra.
Amy Barrett lives in Dunlavin and she is a Fifth Year student at St. Mary’s College in Naas and her soulful single ‘Emilio’ started as the highest new entry in the iTunes Charts and went as high as number two in the iTunes Singer/Songwriter Chart behind featured artist George Ezra.
Speaking to KildareNow, a delighted Amy said: “I didn’t know what to expect when I released it. I took a chance and can’t believe the positive reaction. I have received lots of encouraging messages. The lyrics are very simple but it seems to be catchy and a song that sticks in your head!”
Meanwhile, Amy’s proud dad Dave said: “She has a second song recorded and it should be finished in the next few weeks. She has a few more songs written but not recorded."
‘Emilio’ was first performed live in a radio studio performance on East Coast FM back in 2015. She was encouraged to record ‘Emilio’ and finally got the chance as part of her Gaisce Bronze Medal challenge during her St. Mary’s College Transition Year. ‘Emilio’ was produced by Mark Caplice, co-writer of Irish Eurovision song ‘Together’.
Amy is an experienced singer and has played many gigs including support for Irish acts Ryan O’Shaughnessy and Kolumbus. She won an All-Ireland Gold Singing medal at the 2015 Community Games Finals with her sister Sophie.
It look’s like a bright future in the music industry is waiting for this very talented Naas singer.
