A South Kildare TD is expressing frustration that funding has not been granted by the Minster for Housing for the construction of a second bridge into Newbridge.
Deputy Fiona O'Loughlin said:“Funding was applied for by Kildare County Council under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund to construct a one km road, including a new bridge across the River Liffey, which will link Great Connell Road (R445) and the Athgarvan Road (R416) in Newbridge. I am extremely disappointed that money was not secured for this project."
She said:"I have been raising the need for a second bridge long before I became a TD in 2016. The traffic into Newbridge is ever increasing and we have one main bridge over the Liffey which causes a build up throughout the day. We have five schools just beyond the bridge and many people travel this way to access the motorway at the Naas junction or for work in Naas”.
