Three teens die in reported 'crush' at disco in Co Tyrone on St Patrick's Day

Three young people have died following a suspected stampede at a St Patrick's Day disco last night in a hotel in Cookstown, Co Tyrone.

Police said two 17-year-olds and one 16-year-old had died in the incident at the Greenvale Hotel.

PSNI Assistant Chief Constable Mark Hamilton confirmed the three teenagers who died were a 17-year-old girl, a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy.

It is understood that a 16-year-old girl is in a stable condition in hospital, while a further two teenagers were treated for injuries they suffered during the incident.

Speaking at the scene this morning, Mr Hamilton said that "preliminary investigations show there was a crush towards the front door of this hotel.There looks like there was a large crowd of young people pushing up against the hotel."

Emergency services were called to the Greenvale Hotel on the Drum Road in Cookstown about 9.30pm last night Sunday, March 17. Five emergency crews, paramedics and doctors were dispatched to the scene.

A multi-agency response was launched involving the PSNI and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS).

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to get in contact.

They urged parents to talk to their children and encourage them to come forward to describe what happened and they also warned for people to avoid posting videos or photos of the incident online.
