WATCH: Game-changer female urinals at Electric Picnic for first time
‘They are a much cleaner and better and quicker experience’ - Festival Director Melvin Benn
The days of ladies crossing their legs in long queues to the smelly portable toilets at Electric Picnic could be over.
Gamechanging female urinals are all lined up in place at the Stradbally, Laois festival for the first time this year, adding a bit more equality to the festival.
See post below on how to use Peequal urinals.
Melvin Benn spoke about them on site on Tuesday, August 25 just before the 21st Electric Picnic began.
“I was going to say I’ve been using them for a long time. But they’ve been coming to my shows for quite a long time in the UK.
“Actually, I’m told, they are a much cleaner and better and quicker experience and that’s something that I hope people do enjoy,” he said.
Peequal urinals are made in the UK, from a sugar cane biopolymer and recycled plastic recovered from the ocean. The company says it also invests in UK wildlife projects such as their own ‘Get Your Bush Out’ reforestation campaign.
“ We are proud to be an additional safe space for women at outdoor events with full coverage from the waist down and staff to keep women safe,” they say.
“ Women regularly wait up to 34X longer than men just to use the toilet. Our gender equalising women’s urinals get women out of the cross-legged queue with our revolutionary urinals that are 3X quicker to use than regular portable toilets,” the company says.
The urinals are open from the waist up, and users simply stand either side of a drain on footprinted areas, the squat down out of sight, while holding on to a handle for balance. Afterwards they can pop used tissue into a bin, and use the antibac dispenser.
For traditional toilet visits, standard portable toilets are also on site for both men and women at the festival.
