As Kildare prepares to play Monaghan at Croke Park with throw-in scheduled for 2pm this Sunday 15 July, the Lilywhites will be glad to have proud Kildare man John Paul Wright in their corner as he shows his support for his home team with his passionate new song 'Newbridge or Nowhere'-a homage to the now famous campaign from earlier this month.
The song documents the epic clash between the Lilies and Mayo with the vocal talents of Ciaran Connaughton of Bunoscionn and it features an inspiring video with souvenirs of the campaign including clever packaging on sandwiches ('Kildare For Sam and Mayo For Ham') as well as t-shirts bearing the famous 'Newbridge or Nowhere' slogan.
John Paul is from Co Kildare and he runs an Irish Pub in Salzburg in Austria, and he was catapulted to fame with his brilliant Euros song 'Will we dance, will we dance, will we dance in France?' which he wrote after the Ireland and Bosnia match in 2015.
Speaking to KildareNow, John Paul said: "The Mayo match was amazing, I was ecstatic and jumping around my apartment when the final whistle went. I’ve no plans for another song just yet, unless Kildare win the All Ireland of course! If Ireland were in the World Cup I definitely would have written a song, hopefully for EURO 2020."
It look's like John Paul might have a few more songs up his shelve if Kildare trumps Monaghan this weekend....
