Weather: Brace yourselves for the cold snap on the way

Met Eireann currently has three Weather Warnings in place for the country as a big freeze arrives over the next 48 hours.

It will be cold and rather windy in Kildare today, with bright or sunny spells and perhaps the odd shower.

Afternoon temperatures will range 6 to 8 degrees but it will appear colder due to westerly winds.

Frost and any ice is expected tonight with a few wintry sleet and snow showers.

Lowest temperatures will reach at least -1.

It will be bitterly cold tomorrow across Leinster with scattered sleet and snow showers, and the threat on thunder.

Highest temperatures will reach only 2 or 3 degrees.
