It's set to be another bitterly cold night with Met Eireann announcing that a Yellow Status low pressure warning is in place for the country from 8pm tonight until 10am on Tuesday morning, with temperatures to drop as low as -4 in degrees in Kildare with widespread frost expected in many parts of the county.
Conditions remain dangerous in many parts of the country but roads showed signs of improvement as the day progressed following significant snowfall and freezing temperatures.
Several schools across the country were forced to close today due to adverse weather conditions with sleet and snow in some Western counties, although Leinster escaped the worst of the snow today with widespread frost in its place some of the roads were still icy.

The AA has warned commuters that despite something of a thaw conditions on many roads remain treacherous. They said: "Snow and ice continues to linger on many routes including secondary roads and sheltered areas.
Motorists are also being advised to properly de-frost their vehicles in the morning using luke-warm water and to leave plenty of distance between themselves and other vehicles, with AA warning: "Remember it can take up to ten times longer to stop your vehicle on icy roads, so leave extra space between your vehicle and the one in front. Gentle manoeuvres are key to safe driving on ice and snow."
Tomorrow there will be a clear and frosty start to the day, increasingly cloudy throughout the morning with rain spreading eastwards across the province in the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees, but staying cold for much in the day in northern parts, in moderate to fresh southwest winds.
