A Yellow Weather Warning remains in place for Kildare and neighbouring counties until 11am today.
Forecasters said up to 40mm of rain was expected since 6pm yesterday.
Localised spot flooding is also a risk.
The Weather Warning also applied to South Dublin, Carlow, Laois, Kilkenny, Wexford and Wicklow.
Rain will clear and it will be bright and sunny for the morning with isolated showers.
However the showers will become more widespread and heavier in the afternoon.
It will remain breezy with gusty southerly winds and highs of 14 to 16 degrees.
