Warmer weather on the way but 'heavy showers' can be expected in many places

Met Éireann issues worrying update ahead of bank holiday weekend

While there will be some sunshine over the bank holiday weekend, heavy showers are possible too

With the May bank holiday weekend fast approaching, Met Éireann is warning there is a strong possibility of "heavy showers" in many places.

While temperatures are set to rise in the coming days, the forecaster says there is a "good lot of uncertainty" at present as a low pressure weather system makes its way towards Ireland.

"It'll become warmer over the weekend, and while there's a good lot of uncertainty, it looks like there should be a good of dry weather overall with sunshine, but with the possibility of heavy showers at times too," states the latest update.

Well-known weatherman Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather, agrees there could be a "spanner in the works" for the weekend - particularly on Sunday.

"Latest charts show a bit of a spanner in the works for Bank Holiday Weekend with risk of low system on Sunday," he wrote on social media.

Meanwhile, it it latest forecast,  Met Éireann says there will be a mix of bright or sunny spells and scattered showers this Monday, some of which will be heavy.

"Tonight will bring a mix of clear spells and some well scattered showers early on, but becoming cloudy from the south, with rain moving northwards, becoming heavy at times, with the chance of some spot flooding. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees," it adds.
