One of the Daily Millions Plus prize winners from the draw on Friday 25th January got his weekend off to a perfect start when he collected a cheque for €250,000 from National Lottery headquarters today (Friday).

The delighted Dubliner said he hopes to buy a new car with his winnings – and he may then consider taking a holiday in the sun!

The winner, who wished to keep his win private, said he realised his good fortune last Saturday when he checked his numbers in a local shop. “A message came up to contact the National Lottery.

"I went straight home and checked the numbers online and I simply couldn’t believe it.  I still don’t!

"I walked around the room wondering was this for real. This is life-changing for me.”

Meanwhile excitement is building ahead of tomorrow’s (Saturday) Lotto jackpot which is set to soar to a mega €7 million.

As Ireland prepares to face England at home in the first of the Six Nation Rugby clashes, National Lottery players are being advised to get in the game and tackle one of the highest Lotto jackpots in some time.

A National Lottery spokesperson said today: “There is huge excitement around the rugby with the entire country getting behind the Irish team. Excitement is also building amongst Lotto players with tonight’s jackpot expected to hit an incredible €7 million.”

In the 44 draws since the launch of the enhanced Lotto and Lotto Plus game last September 3.7 million prizes to the value of €52.1 million have been paid out to players. And there have been 14 top prize winners  – four Lotto Jackpot wins, five Lotto Plus 1 top prize wins, and five Lotto Plus 2 top prize wins.

Almost 30 cent in every Euro spent on national Lottery games goes back to Good Causes all over Ireland in the areas of sport, health, arts, culture, heritage, youth, community and the Irish language. Last year along more than €227 million was raised – the equivalent of €620,000 a day.
