Woman alleges at Kildare court she was choked, punched and threatened with a knife by husband

'Dispute over money'
A woman who was allegedly punched to the head several times, choked and threatened with a knife, tried to have an assault allegation against her husband withdrawn.
The couple appeared before Naas District Court and, referring to the incident, the woman told Judge Desmond Zaidan “it happened in the heat of the moment.”
The court heard that incident arose over money.
However Judge Desmond Zaidan refused to accede to the request to effectively have the case dropped.
He pointed out that the case is being taken by the State on behalf of the people of Ireland, like all such matters and not the injured party.
He told Sgt Mary Meade that the wife is only a witness for the State.
The judge added that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions could still decide to proceed against the husband.
He adjourned the matter
