4 goals from Fahey shocks Sash, while Moorefield enjoy win in first round of Kildare leagues

New Moorefield manager Ross Glavin enjoyed his first league win in charge of the club after they comfortably downed Leixlip by 1-10 to 0-7 in their opening Division 1 encounter.

Mark Murray, Eanna O'Connor, Roli Sweeney and Ian Meehan were all on target for the away side during the first half, but Leixlip remained in touch as they went into the break trailing by just 0-6 to 0-4.

Lue Doran's goal at the beginning of the second half help to put real daylight between the sides however, and Moorefield kicked on impressively from there. Adam Tyrrell kicked a couple of impressive scores in the second half, while Meehan and Sweeney also raised white flags for Ross Glavin's men as they ran out comfortable six-point winners.

Back in Newbridge it was a contrasting start to the league for their rivals Sarsfields, who lost out by 5-6 to 1-16 to St Laurence's. It was all about Shaun Fahey as the Larries attacker plundered four goals in a sensational individual display, helping last week's beaten Aldridge Cup finalists work off that poor performance in St Conleth's Park.

Dan Nea's early goal looked to have the Sash on track, while Ray Cahill and Con Whelan also raised white flags for the two in-a-row county champions as the scoreboard read 2-3 to 1-6 at the break. The visitors kicked on in the second half however, and led by another couple of goals from Fahey, they went on to run out two-point winners in a great start to the league.

Raheens battled back from five points down in their local derby meeting with Naas to secure a 1-12 to 0-15 draw, while Athy brushed off some poor early season form to easily beat Aldridge Cup champions Carbury on a scoreline of 2-15 to 1-11. Last year's league champions Confey enjoyed a nine-point winning margin when they defeated Division 2 champions Clogherinkoe in the west Kildare venue yesterday evening.
