Maynooth University captured the FAI Intermediate New Balance Cup in dramatic fashion on Saturday evening as they finished strongly to earn a come from behind 4-1 win over Firhouse Clover at the Aviva Stadium.

The Maynooth side, captained by Carragh GAA clubman Jake Corrigan, trailed by a goal going deep into injury time after Firhouse had defended resolutely for the first 92 minutes, but Darragh Reynor smashed home an equaliser from a corner in the third minute of stoppage time to send the game to extra-time.

The Kildare college side pushed on from their as they seemed the fitter side in the additional 30 minutes, and a goal just upon the restart from Tommy Ilunga put them in control of the game. Michael McLoughlin was sent off for Firhouse as their ambitions unraveled, and further goals from Yousef Belhout and Eoin Donnellan put the gloss on the victory for Maynooth University.
